Vaporizers Boost Virtual Pipeline Winter Peaking Capabilities
Ambient vaporizers manufactured by FinnCo are being deployed as part of a virtual gas pipeline for winter peaking in the Eastern US. A greater demand for heating and other energy services during winter months requires a strategic approach to fuel supply. The investment in vaporizers to heat the CNG will maximise the performance of the supply system.
The installation will be managed by a major liquified and compressed natural gas (LNG, CNG) operator.
The 4200 psi ambient vaporizers are lined with stainless steel and each will heat approximately 35,000 SCFH of CNG to 70°F using hot air at 120°F blowing across the heaters.
Jim Hanly, Director of Product Development at FinnCo, says: “On this project, the CNG cools due to the Joule Thomson effect when the pressure is reduced to operating pressure. Heated ambient air is then used to raise the temperature to an acceptable range.
“This is an essential process in ensuring the virtual gas pipeline can respond in a timely manner, working to maximum efficiency to address winter peaking needs.”
