FinnCo is experiencing calls from customers for extra large ambient vaporizers - over 40' tall in some cases

Demand for 40’-Plus Ambient Vaporizers

FinnCo is being approached by customers who require larger ambient vaporizers than those traditionally manufactured for the market, specifically focusing on products exceeding 40 feet in height. These finned aluminum heat exchangers, which use natural convection of air to warm cryogenic liquids, are being deployed at a growing scale to meet higher flow and pressure requirements across LNG, hydrogen, and oxygen markets.

FinnCo’s design team is currently working alongside customers to develop the ideal large ambient vaporizer to meet specific bespoke needs.

Large ambient vaporizers provide flow capacities in the range of 2,000 to 185,000 SCFH (standard cubic feet per hour) depending on their design, with some mega-units exceeding 200,000 SCFH.

For LNG regasification, 40’-plus vaporizers are often specified to handle 25,000–75,000 gallons per hour, supporting both mid-scale import terminals and peak-saving facilities. These larger profiles maximize heat transfer surface area, reducing the number of units required for high-demand installations and ensuring more stable outlet temperatures.

FinnCo is also seeing that the Hydrogen fueling infrastructure is another growth driver. To support the 350–700 bar (5,000-10,000 psig) fueling stations in locations such as California, ambient vaporizers must reliably convert liquid hydrogen at flow rates of 1,000–5,000 Nm³/hr (38,040-190,000 SCFH), with minimal thermal cycling stress. Larger vaporizers reduce icing and pressure drop issues by distributing loads over a greater surface area, thereby improving durability and lowering maintenance frequency.

Other major sectors that FinnCo serves regularly, such as medical and industrial oxygen supply chains, also benefit.

During the Covid-19 surge, hospitals and bulk suppliers required vaporization systems capable of 2,000 to 185,000 SCFH continuous duty to maintain high oxygen demand. Large ambient vaporizers, with no moving parts and zero external energy input, provided a cost-effective and resilient solution.

FinnCo was in the front line of supplying ambient vaporizers to those responding to the Covid-19 health situation.

From a sustainability perspective, 40’-plus units harness ambient heat, thus eliminating parasitic energy consumption, lowering both operating cost and CO₂ emissions.

As LNG consumption, hydrogen infrastructure, and oxygen distribution continue to grow, the U.S. market is driving a sustained shift toward larger-capacity ambient vaporizers, making them an essential backbone of future cryogenic fluid supply chains.
